Fantasy Movie News: Alice in Wonderland movie

It's not exactly a classic fantasy, but it's definitely something worth mentioning here. Alice in Wonderland (also known as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) by Lewis Caroll is one of the greatest fiction novels of all time. The tale plays with logic in ways that have given the story lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense, and its narrative course and structure has been enormously influential, mainly in the fantasy genre. And now it's going to be a big movie. I stress the word BIG, because the book has been adapted before. This time though Hollywood is going all the way. We have big time producer (Tim Burton), big time cast (Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway) and special effects that will make your eyes water (look at the images below). Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska was cast in the title role of Alice. Mia is best known for HBO's In Treatment.

One concern I have for this movie is the plot. The movie is not going to be the adaptation of Alice in Wonderland book. It's going to be actually a sequel in some ways. SlasshFilm reports:The film begins at a party where Alice, now 17, finds out that she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty high society types. She makes a run for it, and of course, ends up following a white rabbit down a hole, back to Wonderland ? a place where she visited a decade prior. The White Rabbit is convinced that he has the right girl but Alice doesn?t remember her past visit to Wonderland.
To learn more about the movie go to USA Today website. Tim Burton?s Alice in Wonderland will hit theaters on March 5th 2010.
