Turning twenty-seven may be terrifying for some, but for Alex, a struggling artist living in the midwestern United States, it is cataclysmic. Inheriting a huge expanse of land should have made him a rich and happy man; but something about this birthday, his name, and the beautiful woman whose life he just saved, has suddenly made him?and everyone he loves?into a target. A target for extreme and uncompromising violence... In Alex, Terry Goodkind brings to life a modern hero in a whole new kind of high-octane thriller.

The TV adaptation of Terry Goodkind's "The Sword of Truth" series launched yesterday in US. The two pilot episodes ("Prophecy" and "Destiny") were met with mixed reviews. Die-hard fans of "The Sword of Truth" complain that the changes made to the script are extremely invasive and often unnecessary, however people not familiar with the books found the "Seeker" a decent fantasy production.

Terry Goodkind Review: Stone of Tears, Sword of Truth, Book 2

This satisfying sequel to Goodkind's powerful debut novel, Wizard's First Rule, has everything one could ask for in an epic fantasy. In the earlier book, Seeker of Truth Richard Cypher tricked the sorcerer Darken Rahl by using Wizard's First Rule (that people are stupid and can be easily misled) into opening the wrong Box of Orden. Though this saved humanity from the evil mage's tyrannies, it also tore the veil between worlds, so the diabolical Keeper of the Underworld can now reach through and seize permanent control of the living.

The protective barrier that separates Westland from its neighbors to the east is about to fall, letting loose a monstrous evil upon the world. Only the combined efforts of a young man dedicated to finding the truth, an enigmatic woman intent on concealing her past, and a crusty old hermit resigned to his inevitable destiny can prevent the opening of the three boxes of Orden-an event with the potential to destroy existence itself.

Terry Goodkind Book Fragment: Wizard's First Rule - excerpt

IT WAS AN ODD-LOOKING vine. Dusky variegated leaves hunkered against a stem that wound in a stranglehold around the smooth trunk of a balsam fir. Sap drooled down the wounded bark, and dry limbs slumped, making it look as if the tree were trying to voice a moan into the cool, damp morning air. Pods stuck out from the vine here and there along its length, almost seeming to look warily about for witnesses.
