Christopher Paolini News: Update from Christopher Paolini

In his latest newsletter sent out today Christopher Paolini confirms that he is working on a book four, however there is still no official name for it (he's referring to it simply as Book Four) and no release date. Additionally, Christopher says that the book is getting bigger than he originally anticipated and we know what this means. More waiting.

For those of you who enjoy riddles, Christopher threw a hint on another piece of the 4th book containing a one-sided game of knucklebones, an evil assassin, bags of flour, a water-born battering ram, streets lined with lead, a knife in the back, and the death of a character. Intrigued?

Christopher Paolini Review: Eragon review

Kevin Gerard, the author of Conor and the Crossworlds, a fantasy series for young adults, from time to time makes a guest appearance on Fantasy Fan. His first article here was about becoming a sci-fi / fantasy writer. Today he's bringing the review of Eragon by Christopher Paolini.

Eragon Review

Upon hearing about this book and its generalized plot, I honestly thought it would be another Lord of the Rings knockoff. After all, there was an evil wizard, elves, urgals (re: trolls) and a dragon. Oh yes, and a boy to tie all of the corners together.

Few months ago we wrote about a special book Christopher Paolini was working on with Random House. Eragon?s Guide to Alaga?sia is a guide created by Eragon himself for future new Dragon Riders. You can read more about the book in a letter from Christopher, which we posted here.

While you wait for the Guide to be released (soon enough, it's coming out on November 3rd!) take a look at special sneak peak guys Shurtugal managed to get. You will be able to see two high resolution spreads from the book giving you a good idea on what is inside.

The first spread contains a beautiful illustration of Eragon flying on Saphira and discusses Dragon Riders, the Rimgar, Rider swords, the bond between dragon and Rider, as well as the Gedwey Ignasia.

The second spread offers our first look at the forest of Ellesmera. The spread's illustration contains several elven buildings grown out of tree trunks deep within the heart of Du Weldenvarden. The spread's narration discusses the elven capital as well as Du Weldenvarden, elven architecture, elven celebrations, and elven clothing.

As Christopher has said several times in past interviews, he still sees Brisingr and Book 4 as two parts to one book. Because of this, he has decided to add a subtitle to both Brisingr and Book 4. The newsletter also contained a video from Christopher in which he discusses his involvement with the Vroengard Academy game, the game itself, the world of Inheritance, and his plans for writing once the Inheritance Cycle is complete. The video can be viewed at the official Inheritance website.

Christopher Paolini Book Fragment: Excerpt from Brisingr, Inheritance Book 3

Saphira kneaded the soil beneath her feet. Let us be off! Leaving their bags and supplies hanging from the branch of a juniper tree, Eragon and Roran clambered onto Saphira?s back. They wasted no time saddling her; she had worn her tack through the night. The molded leather was warm, almost hot, underneath Eragon. He clutched the neck spike in front of him?to steady himself during sudden changes in direction?while Roran hooked one thick arm around Eragon?s waist and brandished his hammer with the other.
